Judge Nabil Ahmed Tawfiq Sadek was sworn in on Saturday by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi as Egypt's new prosecutor-general for the next four years.

Zakaria Osman, the assistant prosecutor-general, has been acting as the Egypt's top prosecutor since the assassination of the former prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat in a bomb attack in Cairo on the 29th of June.

The new top prosecutor Judge Nabil Sadek had been recently appointed in July to head of the technical office of the President of the Court of Cassation.

Sadek graduated from the Police Academy in 1976 and holds a Bachelor of law.

He resigned his job a few years later as a police officer to pursue a career as a judge.

He has served in several positions within the judiciary, including chief prosecutor for financial and business affairs, chief prosecutor of south of Cairo, and has also worked on the team of former prosecutor general Rajai Al Arabi during the Mubarak-era.

He worked on loan for six years in Qatar as a judge in an appeal Court.

Earlier on Saturday, President Al Sisi also swore in a new cabinet headed by former Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail.
