Al-Fagr newspaper journalist Rasha Azab and Editor in Chief Adel Hammouda have been summoned by military prosecution. They are to appear before military prosecutors at 11 am on Sunday.
Azab published an article detailing the meeting that took place between members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the No to Military Trials campaigners.
Military prosecution has summoned several journalists and media personnel in the past months, including Ahram Online journalist Hossam El-Hamalawy and TV host Reem Maged, for talking about the military or the SCAF. Maged and Hamalawy said they were not charged with anything but were asked to provide evidence of alleged military police violations mentioned by Hamalawy on Maged’s television programme.
Several activists have condemned the summoning of journalists, saying it compromises freedom of speech. A demonstration is planned to take place on Sunday at 11 am in front of military prosecution in solidarity with the two summoned journalists Rasha Azab and Adel Hammouda.
