Egyptian telecommunications mogul Naguib Sawiris has filed a complaint against Mohamed Morsi, head of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, accusing the prominent Brotherhood member of insulting him and also of “damaging the national economy”.
Morsi said during a press conference held in Dakahlia governorate that the wealthy businessman had affronted Islam, referring to the picture of popular cartoon characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse with an Islamic beard and dressed in a niqab (full face veil) respectively, which the Coptic tycoon posted on Twitter.
Morsi called on Muslims to boycott all Sawiris companies in retaliation. “He has insulted Islam, and we will not just watch him and do nothing,” he said.
Sawiris put himself into hot water since posting the controversial photoshoped picture, raising accusations of blasphemy.
Islamic lawyer Mamdouh Ismael along with 14 others recently submitted a complaint to the general prosecutor's office against Sawiris. He was also fiercely attacked on social networking sites, but has insisted that he meant no harm and simply thought the images were funny.
