The Higher Electoral Committee gave the green light on Tuesday to parliamentary candidate Abdel-Hamid Abdel-Gelil Abdel-Qawy to compete in the second stage of the parliamentary election run-offs after the death of 80-year-old candidate Mohamed Ezzat in Zagazig constituency in Sharqiya governorate.
The late independent candidate Ezzat died from a heart attack after the first round of the second stage of the parliamentary elections.
The four-seat constituency saw eight candidates qualify for the run-offs- seven independent candidates including Ezzat, in addition to a Future of Homeland party candidate.
Voting in the run-off stage started in Egypt on Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday.
The second stage of parliamentary elections took place on 21-23 November.
Egypt's first parliament since 2012 is due to convene before the end of the year.
