Polls will open on Saturday and Sunday for Egyptians abroad to vote in the parliamentary elections’ first phase in districts where the results were deemed void by the Egyptian administrative courts, election affairs advisor to the prime minister Refaet Komsan told MENA.

Voters from a total of four districts in Alexandria, Beheira’s Damanhour and Beni Suef governorates will cast their ballots again, Komsan stated.

Election reruns were ordered in Alexandria and Damanhour because ex-felons were reportedly running in the polls, which is against the law. In Beni Suef, a candidate’s name was added to the voting list despite not being approved by the High Election Committee (HEC), while another candidate was omitted despite receiving approval.

During the first stage of the parliamentary elections in October, a total of 30,531 Egyptians voted abroad to select their representatives in 14 Egyptian governorates.

The new parliament is expected to hold its first session before the end of this year.

Egypt has been without a legislative body since a court dissolved in June 2012 the 2011 House of Representatives on constitutional grounds.

Since his election in June 2014, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has held legislative power in the absence of a parliament.
