Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi appointed late Monday Hisham Badawy as the acting head of the Central Auditing Agency.

Badawy replaced  Hisham Geneina, who was dismissed from his post by a presidential decree, hours after State Security prosecution found his claims about corruption in Egypt’s most powerful institutions, including the police, the judiciary and intelligence agencies, to be " inaccurate."

Badawy was appointed by El-Sisi in December as the deputy head of the Central Auditing Agency.

The acting top auditor served as a State Security Prosecution holding the post of State Security prosecutor-general from 2005 to 2012.

During his work in the State Security prosecution, he supervised a number of high-profile and controversial cases, including espionage and terror-related cases.

During Islamist President Morsi's presidency, Badawy was transferred from the State Security Prosecution to the judiciary, where he was appointed head of the Cairo Appeals Court.
