University professors are to hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the latest development in the university presidents’ crisis after what they see as a retreat by the Cabinet to issue a decision to sack university presidents appointed by Hosni Mubarak.

The emergency meeting is considered as a first step before the strike called for by professors for the upcoming academic year.

The meeting was to be held on 11 September 2011, but was brought forward to strengthen the professors' position.
