Egypt's parliament — the House of Representatives — will hold two sittings Saturday. The first will be held at 1pm to open the door to registration for MPs who wish to run for leading posts in 25 parliamentary committees and to review the lists of members of each committee.

The second sitting will be held at 3pm to announce the results of the election. Each committee will have to elect one chairman, two deputies, and one general secretary.

A lot of businessmen MPs have decided to run for leading posts related to their business interests.

Businessman Mohamed Faragallah, a major Alexandria industrialist, will run for the post of chairman of the youth and sports Committee. Faragallah is also chairman of Alexandria's Semouha Sporting Club.

Mohammed El-Sewedy, a major producer of electric cables, will run for the post of chairman of the environment and energy committee.

Talaat El-Sewedy, another cables magnate, will run to head the trade and industry committee.

Ali El-Moselhi, a former minister of social solidarity, will run for the chairmanship of the economic affairs committee.

Mohammed El-Orabi, a former foreign minister, will run to head the foreign affairs committee.

Osama Heikal, a former information minister, will run to head the information and culture committee.

Osama El-Abd, a former chairman of Al-Azhar University, will run to head the religious affairs committee.

Bahaaeddin Abu Shoka, a lawyer and secretary general of Al-Wafd Party, will run to head the legislative and constitutional affairs committee.

Bussinessmen Sayed Hassan, a major poultry producer, will run to head the agriculture committee.

Ashraf El-Araby, former chairman of the Tax Authority, will run to head the budget and planning committee.

Alaa El-Abd, parliamentary spokesperson for the Free Egyptians Party, will run to head the health committee.

Most of the candidates for the leading posts belong to the Support Egypt coalition, a pro-government parliamentary bloc.
