A Bolivian-flagged freighter ran aground in rough waters on Turkey's Mediterranean coast early Friday and one crew member went missing, authorities said.
The Sea Bright was on its way to Egypt, carrying a shipment of cement, when it smashed into coastal rocks off the popular resort city of Antalya early Friday and flipped on its side, local authorities said.
Rescue workers battled treacherous waters in darkness and managed to evacuate 17 crew members, of whom 16 are Egyptian and 2 are Syrian. The ship's cook, who reportedly jumped into the sea after the accident, was missing, authorities said.
The state-run Anatolia news agency said the ship was damaged and fuel was seen leaking into the sea.
