Professors demand replacement of university leaders

Cairo University

Around four thousand university professors marched to the Council of Ministers on Sunday and announced they will go on strike if their demands are not met.

The professors were holding their general conference at the Teaching Club at Cairo University when they decided to march and demand all university leaders be removed and elections conducted for their replacements.

The professors insisted they will not begin the new academic year before their demands are met. They also accused the Council of Ministers of backing out on its promise to replace all university heads on 1 August and said they will prevent university leaders from entering university grounds.

The professors also asked Khorsheid to increase the scientific research budget.

It was decided that a three man committee made up of a university professor, a representative of the Ministry of High Education and a representative of the Ministry of Finance should put forward a schedule for salaries increases.
