Clashes erupted Friday evening in Cairo as some protestors marched from Tahrir Square to the Ministry of Defence and 11 activists were arrested.
Large, general protests were called for in Tahrir Square to protest the slow pace of Egypt’s ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces in handing over power to a civilian government.
A No to Military Trials movement member, Mona Seif, has thus far had counted 11 activists arrested near the Ministry of Defence on Friday. A Facebook page that was set up following the 8 July clashes also claims activists were arrested.
The Facebook page is calling for a demonstration this Saturday morning in front of military prosecution in solidarity with the arrested activists.
The clashes were triggered in Abbassiya, a residential area near the Ministry of Defence, when some area residents stood against the protest.
This is the second time clashes erupt between Abbassiya residents and anti-SCAF demonstrators. The first clashes took place by the end of the three-week long 8 July sit-in and resulted in the death of one activist.
