Egyptian police arrested on Wednesday the suspected killer of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) CEO Nevine Loutfy, one day after she was found murdered inside her house in 6 October.

The suspect has been identified as 49 year-old Abdel Aty Saber, who used to work as a security guard for a year and a half in the compound where Loutfy resided, before leaving his job a couple of months ago.

According to police investigations reported by Al-Ahram Arabic news website, Saber, who has been accused in 10 arms and drug possessions cases, knew that the CEO lived alone and was able to disable surveillance cameras.  

The suspect entered the villa through the bathroom’s window and found Loutfy awake in her bedroom, leading to a skirmish with the man, who stabbed her multiple times.

Saber was found with Loutfy's car, iPad, mobile phone 5,000 dirhams (about EGP 24,000) in his possession.

On Tuesday, the 64 year-old CEO's shocking death lead Egypt’s bourse to halt trading in shares of the ADIB for ten minutes.

Loutfy had extensive finance experience gained in the US, Europe and emerging markets, with primary areas of expertise in local corporate and SME business management, in addition to credit risk and capital management.
