A Giza prosecution ordered on Tuesday an investigation into the death of a man in custody in Cairo's Haram police station, Ahram Arabic website reported.

The prosecution ordered the autopsy and burial of the 26-year-old identified as Mahmoud H, whose family says was tortured to death by police.

Mahmoud was being held on suspicion of killing his grandmother.

Police say the suspect fell ill while in custody and was taken to hospital, where he died.

According to Article 52 of the Egyptian constitution, "torture in all its forms is a crime without a statute of limitations."
