A memorial service was held on Friday in Cairo for the victims of flight EgyptAir MS804 which crashed into the Mediterranean en route from Paris to Cairo exactly a year ago, state news agency MENA reported Friday.

The Airbus A320 killed all 66 people on board, among them 40 Egyptians and 15 French nationals.

EgyptAir and the aviation ministry have set up a monument which features the flight number outside a hall for memorial services that is close to the ministry's headquarters.

The memorial service was attended by some of the families of the victims, along with officials such as the minister of civil aviation, the president's consultant for religious affairs, and the CEO of EgyptAir, along with the French ambassador to Egypt and other foreign diplomats.

Last December, the aviation ministry announced that traces of explosives had been found on the victims' remains.

However, this month investigators from France's National Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation Institute who examined samples of the remains of the French victims concluded that there were no traces of explosives on the bodies of the passengers, French newspaper Le Figaro reported.
