Egyptian Interior Minister Mansour El-Eissawy has denied that security forces fired on protesters during Saturday's clashes, adding that 49 policemen of different ranks have suffered injuries.

Speaking during an emergency cabinet meeting on Sunday, El-Eissawy said that it was civilians who fired at demonstrators. The guilty parties have been arrested and will be questioned and prosecuted, he said.

El-Eissawy also warned that full force will be used against any demonstrators who attempt to approach the interior ministry or any police stations across the country.
