The Mediterranean Coast of Egypt
EgyptAir is set to begin flights from Cairo to El-Alamein's city airport on the North Coast for the first time, as part of a plan to encourage internal tourism and link touristic attractions all over the country, the chairman of Egypt's flagship airliner Safwat Mosalam announced in a statement.
Mosalam, who did not clarify the start date of the new flights but said they would begin soon, said that the direct flights would run twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Thousands of vacationers travel on holiday every year to Egypt's North Coast cities and resorts on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road during the months of July and August.
The northern coast of Egypt extends roughly 1,050 kilometres along the Mediterranean Sea from the eastern border of the Sinai Peninsula to the western village of Sallum on Egypt's border with Libya.
El-Alamein's city airport lies 112 kilometres from Alexandria, the central hub of Egypt's Mediterranean coastline.
