Fifteen killed in road accident in Upper Egypt

Fifteen people were killed and six others injured in a road accident involving four vehicles in Upper Egypt early Saturday, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

According to Al-Ahram, two heavy duty vehicles, a pick up carrying workers, and a car collided on the Assiut-Red Sea highway.

The bodies of victims and the injured were transferred to hospitals in Assiut.

According to a recent statistics released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), the number of road accidents in 2016 was 14,710, an increase of 1.1 percent compared to 14,548 for 2015.

A total of 5,343 people were killed and 18,646 others injured as a result of traffic accidents in 2016.
