Egypt Armed Forces thwart 20 attempts to smuggle goods, drugs over past week: Spokesman

Egypt's armed forces thwarted over the past week 20 different attempts to smuggle goods and drugs, as well as irregular migration attempts, across Egyptian borders, the army spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.

The Armed Forces have apprehended 20 suspects in several cases as well as 226 persons who attempted to migrate irregularly.

Egyptian border-guards also seized 11 vehicles and four fishing boats carrying 1,000 packs of cigarettes as well as large amounts of counterfeit medicines.

Also seized were 15 kg of hashish and marijuana as well as 25,000 pills and 1,500 kg of stone mixed with pure gold.
