A New Cairo prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the death of an American University in Cairo student who died after being found unconscious in the university's pool on Tuesday, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.
Twenty-two year-old Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Aziz was found unresponsive in the pool late on Monday and transferred to a New Cairo hospital in a coma.
He passed away early Tuesday.
The prosecution ordered a team from the criminal forensic evidence department to locate any CCTV units in the pool area in order to determine possible criminal wrongdoing.
The university has ordered the pool area closed until further notice, and lowered its flags to half-mast in mourning.
The funeral of Ahmed Abdel-Aziz was held Tuesday afternoon in New Cairo, according to his family.
