In the first three days after its release, an anti-drug video advertisement featuring Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has drawn a fourfold increase in the number of people seeking addiction treatment compared to the same period last month, Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Waly said on Thursday.

The advertisement is part of an anti-drug campaign titled You are Stronger than Drugs, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Social Solidarity's Fund for Drug Control & Treatment of Addiction (FDCTA).

Released four days ago, the three-minute video has garnered around six million views, 104,000 likes and 14,000 shares on Facebook.

Salah, who is immensely popular in Egypt and the UK, joined the campaign more than two years ago as a volunteer.

The 25-year-old was key in driving Egypt to the 2018 World Cup after a 28-year absence following a narrow win over Congo last October, thanks to a double that included a stoppage-time penalty.

In January, Salah donated five million Egyptian pounds (£200,000) to the Tahya Masr (Long Live Egypt) fund to revive the country's economy.
