Over the past two weeks, Italian and Egyptian investigation teams have met in Cairo to analyse all data collected during investigations of the killing of Italian student Giulio Regeni, a statement by the Egyptian prosecution read.

For the past two years, Egyptian and Italian authorities have been cooperating in the ongoing investigation into the murder of the Italian graduate student, who disappeared in Cairo on 25 January 2016, and was found dead 10 days later, bearing signs of torture.

According to the statement, camera recordings from Cairo's metro stations have been retrieved and presented to Italian technicians during the past two weeks.

The Egyptian team has issued a copy of the final investigations as well as some new investigations that were completed in the last few weeks to the Italian authorities.

The statement said that more meetings are being scheduled to follow up on the investigations. 

Egypt's Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadeq discussed in a phone call on Tuesday with his Italian counterpart the ongoing investigations into Regeni's murder, a statement by the general prosecution read.

Italy’s top prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone expressed appreciation during the call for Egypt's ongoing cooperation.

Sadeq told Pignatone that cooperation would continue until the perpetrators who were behind Regeni's death are referred to a criminal court, according to the statement.

In December, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi underscored in a meeting in Cairo with the Italian Minister of Interior Marco Minniti Egypt's "sincere determination" to reach final conclusions in the investigation.
