Sudan's security and stability are a top priority for Egypt, the country's envoy to Khartoum said in press statements on Sunday.

In statements reported by state-owned MENA news agency, Egypt's ambassador to Sudan Hossam Eissa said that Sudan's stability is an integral part of Egypt's stability and security.

The statements came following a meeting between the ambassador and Sudan's presidential aide Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, where they discussed ties between the nations.

Eissa said there is a correspondence in viewpoints between the two countries on various issues; which was evident in a quartet meeting in Khartoum between the foreign and intelligence chiefs of both countries.

The meetings come as Sudan continues to see protests that have turned violent since 19 December against a decision to hike the price of bread.

At least 19 people have been killed since the protests started in the country, which suffers from an acute foreign exchange crisis and rising inflation.
