Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry meets with Lebanese parliament speaker in Beirut

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the Lebanese speaker of parliament Nabih Berriin Beirut on Friday where they discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, the Egyptian foreign ministry has said.

Shoukry said that Egypt was looking forward to seeing the formation of a new Lebanese government that would include all sects and factions of the Lebanese people.

He added that Egypt fully supports Lebanon’s quest to reach consensus and stability.

The two officials also discussed the latest developments in the region, especially the latest developments concerning the situation in Palestine and the peace process.

Berri expressed Lebanon’s hope to boost its coordination with Egypt, especially in the fields of energy and gas related to Egypt’s latest gas exploration and the possibility that Egypt may be able to meet Lebanon’s current energy needs.

Earlier on Friday Shoukry met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

Shoukry is in Beirut to participate in the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit.
