Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad suggested on Monday that Egypt follow the example of several European countries in dealing with the issue of stray dogs by adopting strict regulations.

These regulations include amending laws, providing funds and coordinating the roles of the government and animal rights societies, she said.

Fouad made the comments at a House of Representatives session attended by the ministers of agriculture and local development and representatives of animal care associations to discuss the issue.

The environment ministry is ready to participate and offer necessary studies to confront the crisis, she added.
