The Egyptian military has denied news reports that several army units at a military base near the canal city of Suez have gone on strike.
Various news and social networking sites reported the alleged strike on Sunday. The official Facebook page of the Egyptian armed forces dismissed the claim as "rumours" and a "malicious" attempt to bring down the armed forces that was successfully managing parliamentary elections and preparing for presidential elections, as per the democratic transition roadmap.
The statement added that the armed forces expected further attacks and lies to emanate from groups aiming to disrupt the democratic transition.
