Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki discussed ways to boost military cooperation between Egypt and the UK with the British minister of state for the armed forces, Mark Lancaster, at a meeting in Cairo on Thursday.

According to an Egyptian military statement, Zaki and Lancaster discussed the latest developments regionally and internationally.

The war on terrorism and joint exercises were discussed in the meeting as well.

Zaki expressed his appreciation for the historic relations between Egypt and the UK, adding that he was looking forward to more cooperation in the future between the two countries.

Lancaster praised the role Egypt is playing in supporting stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Egyptian armed forces’ chief of staff Mohamed Farid attended, as did British ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams and British defence attaché Colonel Edward Sandry.

This is Lancaster’s first official visit to Egypt, according to the British embassy.
