Tens of thousands of protesters marched on the military headquarters in Alexandria, holding the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) responsible for the killing of at least 70 football fans on Wednesday night in Port Said. They set off from El-Raml after the Friday prayers, chanting against military rule and the military council leaders.

Upon the deadly events in the football league match between Ahly and Masry on Wednesday night, a number of eyewitnesses said security forces did not attempt to stop alleged Masry fans from raiding the pitch and attacking Ahly fans. The prosecutor-general ordered the detainment of Port Said security director on Thursday pending investigations.

On Thursday, 28 political groups called for mass marches in different cities in solidarity with the victims, to demand that parliament should take clear-cut decisions against the current government and rulers over the deadly episod.

Protests have been ongoing since Wednesday night in the country's major cities, with violent clashes erupting between protesters and security forces near the Ministry of Interior in Cairo and near the security directorate in Suez, with four declared dead and over a thousand injured.
