Egypt will continue supporting Sudan's hopes and ambitions, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said at a celebration in Khartoum at the signing of a landmark power-sharing agreement between the main Sudanese opposition coalition and the military council.

"I deliver to you the salute of your brothers from the north of the valley and our support for your choices and ambitions that are not limited to geographical boundaries," Madbouly said, stressing his support and determination to strengthen relations between the two fraternal countries.

Madbouly took part in the signing ceremony on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the current chair of the African Union.

The prime minister said Egypt is keen on supporting Sudan’s vision of the future of its nation, and said support would be provided out of confidence in capabilities in resolving all conflicts and overcoming challenges.

He also hailed the role of the African Union and other parties in aiding stability in Sudan.

The prime minister flew to Khartoum on Saturday to attend the ceremony marking the hstoric deal between the opposition and the ruling military council, following months of protests and instability.

A number of other African leaders were also in attendance, including Abiy Ahmed, prime minister of Ethiopia, and Salva Kiir, president of South Sudan.
