Egypt and France have agreed on the importance of concerted joint efforts at reconciliation in Libya, which would contribute to eliminating terrorism and limiting foreign interference.

According to a statement, the spokesman for Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Bassam Rady, said El-Sisi had received French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and they had discussed bilateral relations and key regional crises.

El-Sisi and Le Drian agreed on the necessity of preserving Libyan resources and national institutions.

They also discussed pushing a political solution as a settlement to the Syrian crisis, wherein El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's support for a resolution which preserves the unity of the Syrian state and its territorial integrity.

They also discussed boosting the partnership between the two countries, especially economically and developmentally.

Le Drian pointed to his country's following-up on the successes of Egypt's economic reform programme, as well as developmental projects nationwide, the statement said.

The French minister said such projects would provide promising opportunities to maximise French investments in the country, especially in the fields of energy and transport.

The volume of the trade exchange between Egypt and France surged 36.2 percent year-on-year in January to May 2019 to reach 1.212 billion euros, compared to 823.7 million euros in the corresponding period in 2018.
