The armed forces of Egypt and Jordan kicked off the joint "Aqaba-5" military training. The exercises, held near the southern military zone in Assiut governorate, and off Egypt's Red Sea coast, are conducted over several days, the Egyptian military said on Wednesday.
The training features land, naval and special forces exercises to "combat challenges and threats targeting security and stability in the region," the military added.
The drills are the latest in a series of annual joint exercises held with Jordan over the past five years.
