Tarek El-Zayat, a nuclear power engineer with Rosatom, which is responsible for the implementation of the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, said on Thursday the nuclear station would enjoy high safety measures and that 40 percent of the cost of the project, which amounts to $7 billion, was allocated for safety factors.

The same station was built in more than nine countries, including China, India and Turkey, and they operated efficiently and without risk, El-Zayat told Ahram Online correspondent in Sochi on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit.

He added that the Egypt plant would be five-percent manually operated, and that this was only restricted to the monitoring process. The plant would function with state-of-art technology, El-Zayat stated.

El-Zayat spoke of the importance of training Egyptian engineers to work in the nuclear station and that there were many scholarships from Russian universities to study nuclear engineering.

"This plant represents the highest nuclear technology in the world, the third generation of nuclear reactors. So its cost and efficiency are high," he told Ahram Online.

He said the majority of countries were moving towards the establishment of clean nuclear power stations. Energy generated from one gram of uranium equals that generated from three tons of coal, he pointed out.

He said the ceremony opening the Egyptian nuclear power plant in Dabaa would be held in June 2020, as President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the ongoing Russia-Africa Summit.
