Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has said that a comprehensive political solution to the conflict in Libya could be reached in the coming few months.

"During the next few months we will find a comprehensive… political solution to the Libyan issue through which the "pit that pushes fighters and weapons to neighbouring countries including Egypt will end," El-Sisi told the Aswan Sustainable Peace and Development Forum hosted by Egypt on Wednesday.

Speaking to African heads of state and top international officials, El-Sisi called for swift action to end the crisis in the north African country, which he said is undermining stability, economic growth and development for other countries in the region, including Egypt, which shares its western frontier with Libya.

El-Sisi called for "decisive action" against countries that back terrorism, urging policy makers to think beyond any form of support they may be receiving from such countries.

El-Sisi pledged to offer assistance, within Egypt's economic capacity, to African nations to help them in their fight against terrorism, including with military training and equipment.

As chair of the African Union, whose rotating term is about to end, El-Sisi pledged to continue to support the 55-nation bloc's efforts in the fight against terrorism even after his country's one-year presidency expires early next year.
