Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt's rejection of Turkish escalation in Libya with the secretary-general of the United Nations, the German national security adviser and the high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy on Libya.

Shoukry's statement came within a framework of intensive communication with his counterparts and international officials on the Libyan crisis.

He said that Egypt rejects the Turkish escalation in Libya, stressing the importance of activating all possible mechanisms to prevent interference in the war-torn country, a matter which violates international law.

He also affirmed the necessity of working on maintaining the opportunities for reaching a political settlement through the Berlin Process.

In the past weeks, tensions have continued to mount in the Mediterranean region following controversial accords signed between Ankara and Libya's Government of National Accord, led by Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.

Egypt has reiterated its firm support of the eastern-based Libyan National Army and its commander Khalifa Haftar, stressing its rejection of "any form of intervention in Libya’s domestic affairs."
