The official spokesperson of the foreign affairs ministry Amr Rushdie has announced on Monday that Egyptians residing abroad can register for presidential elections from Monday 5 March 2012.

Rushdie added that the registration for presidential elections will remain open until 4 April 2012 for 30 days through the official elections website.

With regard to issues faced by Egyptians abroad during the parliamentary elections, Rushie said that the ministry has coordinated with the Presidential Elections Commission to iron out these problems of a short registration period, voting and the counting of votes.

He also suggested that those who got their national IDs between 27 September 2011 and 8 March 2012 will not find their names in the database until 15 March.

He also urged citizens who face difficulties in registering to go to the nearest Egyptian embassy for assistance.

The upcoming presidential elections will be held on 23 and 24 May 2012 in Egypt while Egyptians abroad will vote in the presidential elections from 11 May 2012 for 7 days.
