As part of precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Egypt's Education Minister Tarek Shawky suspended on Wednesday "school activities."
According to a statement by the Egyptian cabinet, Shawky said that the school timetables will be modified in line with the new changes, without giving details about the specific school activities that will be suspended.
The rapidly spreading coronavirus, which emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, has killed over 4,300 people so far and infected more than 121,000 worldwide.
Egypt detected eight new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the flu-like virus in the country to 67, according to health ministry .
The minister instructed education directorates to adopt all preventive health measures and to continuously follow up on students' medical situation to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, the education ministry has urged all media outlets and social media users to verify the accuracy of any information published.
