Twenty-one Egyptians in Saudi Arabia have tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19), the Gulf kingdom’s health ministry said on Twitter early Thursday.
The Egyptian patients were in close contact with an Egyptian visitor previously reported to have the coronavirus, the ministry added.
The Egyptians were among 24 new cases detected in the kingdom, bringing the total number there of confirmed cases of the fast-spreading virus to 45, it added. The three other new cases include a 12-year-old Saudi child and two people who came from Iraq.
Travel between Egypt and the Gulf kingdom has been suspended, with only limited flights temporarily operated between the two countries to bring their nationals back home.
Egypt now has 67 confirmed coronavirus cases, after the country’s health ministry registered eight new cases Wednesday.
At least 45 cases out of the total number have been detected on a Nile River cruise ship in the popular southern tourist city of Luxor.
