EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has received two messages from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to European Council President Charles Michel and to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the latest developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The messages were handed over by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at a meeting with Borrell in Brussels, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said on Thursday.

During the meeting, Shoukry expressed Egypt's appreciation for its relations with the EU, with a view to attaining regional security and stability, the spokesman added.

The two sides reviewed means to overcome common challenges, notably the issues of terrorism and illegal migration.

Meanwhile, Borrell said the EU highly values the major role played by Egypt to achieve regional stability, asserting the European bloc's keenness to develop partnership with Cairo in various fields.

The two sides also exchanged views on several regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, the Libyan crisis and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Shoukry and Borrell agreed to continue bilateral coordination and consultation in the coming stage on all regional and international files of mutual interest, the spokesman noted.
