Egypt has allocated EGP 1 billion ($63.69 million) to the health ministry to help it provide preventative medical supplies needed to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, the cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday.

The decision by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly comes in light of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's directives for the government to be on high alert amid a warning by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for all countries to take necessary preventative steps to combat the deadly virus, the cabinet said.

Egypt has introduced a set of sweeping preventative measures to tackle the fast-spreading virus including imposing an overnight curfew for two weeks, shuttering mosques and churches and suspending international flights.

Egypt has so far registered 366 coronavirus cases, including 19 fatalities.
