The National Bank of Egypt (NBE), the country's largest state bank by assets, said it is shutting down a main branch in New Cairo for two weeks.

In a statement seen by Ahram Online, NBE said it will close its branch in New Cairo's 90 Street, with employees committed to two-week isolation starting Wednesday after an employee was infected with the novel coronavirus.

The bank said it has activated a business continuity plan from alternative locations, including remote access from homes for all manageres tasked with key  operational activities in the branch.

Up until Wednesday, Egypt had recorded 710 coronavirus cases and 46 deaths.

In the past weeks, a number of companies have announced they will  grant their employees remote access to network as the Egyptian government urged the public sector to lower workforce under measures to combat the disease.
