A minor earthquake measuring 3.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the Gulf of Suez Thursday afternoon, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) said in a statement.
According to the NRIA, the quake was recorded at 3:46 pm local time 5 km away from the south of Zafarana in Suez governorate.
No injury or property damage reported, the NRIA said.
Egypt is typically an earthquake safe country that rarely sees earthquakes.
