Opening session of 3rd Cairo Water Week
Egypt’s irrigation and water resources Minister Mohamed Abdel-Aty inaugurated on Sunday Cairo Water Week’s (CWW) third edition, which aims at spreading awareness about water issues and promoting innovation to face challenges in this regard.
The CWW is being held this year from 18 to 22 October under the title “Water Security for Peace and Development in Arid Lands… The Road to Dakar 2021.”
According to a video published by the ministry, this year the CWW will honour farmers and the authors of the best three graduation projects at the Faculty of Engineering’s water and hydraulics department.
The event will also host a competition for who can best present their Masters or PhD thesis in under three minutes.
The CWW is a platform that seeks to facilitate the exchange of views between scientists, water specialists and relevant state authorities, with the aim of making the best use of water, including the use of modern irrigation systems and the establishment of projects to contain flood water and protect Egyptian coasts from the effects of climate change.
A number of ministers, including Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, participated in the CWW.
The inauguration ceremony was followed by speeches by Abdel-Aty, PM Madbouly and international experts.
The CWW is held in the capital under the auspices of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. It is organised by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in cooperation with partners from regional and international organisations, as well as national institutions, authorities and ministries.
