Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly travelled on Saturday morning to Baghdad to participate in the meeting of the Egyptian-Iraqi high committee, which will be held later today.

The meeting will be chaired by Madbouly and his Iraqi counterpart Mostafa Al-Kadhimi.

A high-level delegation is accompanying Madbouly, including the ministers of electricity, petroleum, manpower, international cooperation, health, housing, transport, civil aviation, trade and industry, in addition to government officials, according to a cabinet statement.

The meeting is scheduled to deal with a number of issues of mutual concern, especially Egypt's participation in rebuilding Iraq, as well as expanding cooperation in economic fields, and increasing trade exchange.

A series of agreements and memoranda of understanding is set to be inked during the event, the statement added.

A preparatory round of talks kicked off on Wednesday to prepare a set of agreements about potential ventures between Cairo and Baghdad, to be presented to the chairs of the high committee.

Saturday's meeting will be the first following an agreement to revive the joint high committee during a trilateral summit attended by the leaders of Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan in August to boost cooperation.

The Egyptian-Iraqi high committee was formed by an agreement signed by both countries in July 1988, with the aim of coordinating cooperation frameworks.

The committee has met twice since then, in 1988 and 1989.
