In a press conference held in Khartoum, Egyptian armed forces’ chief of staff Lt. General Mohamed Farid stated that Egyptian-Sudanese military relations would witness a “qualitative leap” in the upcoming period in all fields, including joint drills and expertise exchange, as well as border security.

Farid added that he discussed, with Sudanese armed forces officials on Sunday, all fields of military cooperation to boost military relations between Egypt and Sudan.

 “We reached fruitful conclusions from this visit that opens a door to coordination between the two armies in the two countries” Sudan’s chief of staff Lt. Gen. Mohamed Osman Al-Hussein said.

The Egyptian armed forces’ chief of staff arrived in Khartoum on Saturday per an invitation of his Sudanese counterpart to hold talks on joint cooperation.

Farid held discussions in Khartoum as he led a top delegation that included the institution’s main military branches.

The talks discussed implementation procedures of the outcomes of a visit by the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan to Cairo last week, where both countries’ leaderships agreed on the need to accelerate developing military cooperation fields between the two countries to bolster their capabilities in facing challenges to their regional security and common interests.

Sudanese armed forces participated in the Sahel & Sahara anti-terror drill which was held in Egypt in December 2018 at Mohamed Naguib Military base. 

In September 2019 , the Sudanese navy participated in naval drills conducted in Saudi Arabia with the participation of Egyptian naval forces.
