Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has told UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen that political endeavours aiming to settle the crisis in the war-torn country should run in parallel with "decisive" confrontation with the armed terrorist organisations there.

In a meeting held in Cairo Thursday, Shoukry stressed Egypt's constants concerning the Syrian crisis, which aim at reaching a political settlement that preserves the unity and sovereignty of Syria, according to a statement by ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

Shoukry reviewed Egyptian efforts with all concerned parties to push ahead with a political settlement in accordance with UN Resolution 2254, the statement added. 

Shoukry also expressed Egypt's rejection of any "forced" demographic change in Syria and the transfer of extremist militants that aims to agitate regional disputes with the target of serving the agendas of terrorist group supporters.

Syria erupted into civil war in 2011 after President Bashar Al-Assad began a brutal crackdown on protesters calling for an end to his family’s rule.
