Egypt will see a five-day wave of unstable weather until Tuesday, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned, with rainfall expected in several regions starting Friday.

According to an official statement, the Mediterranean city of Alexandria will see light to medium rainfall, with medium rainfall expected in Matrouh, Sidi Barani and Salloum.

Several areas in Greater Cairo, Nile Delta, and Suez Canal cities, will see light rainfall on Saturday, the statement said, adding that medium to heavy rainfall will hit Alexandria, Sidi Abdel-Rahman, and other places.

Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh and Beheira will see medium rainfall on Saturday, the statement added.

The EMA said it forecasted light rainfall on Saturday in Greater Cairo, Nile Delta, Suez Canal cities and areas in central Sinai. Medium to heavy rainfall is expected in Alexandria, Matrouh, Beheira and other cities.

Light to medium rainfall will hit several regions in the northern coasts on Monday and Tuesday, while northern lower Egypt will see light rainfall.

The EMA stressed the importance of undertaking all necessary measures to limit the repercussions of the rainfall.

Egypt has been upping measures against possible bad weather since the widespread flooding that took place in Cairo earlier this year due to two days of heavy rain across the country that killed at least 20 people. 

The wave of unstable weather, that had taken place in March of this year, has been described as “exceptional and unprecedented,” with the country not having experienced similar conditions in 40 years.
