Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has invited Kuwait’s new emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to visit Cairo, a statement by the foreign ministry read on Sunday.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry delivered El-Sisi’s invitation to Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad during a meeting that saw a discussion on bilateral ties.

Shoukry also stressed Egypt’s appreciation for Kuwait’s support in the past years, praising the role of late Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad in supporting bilateral ties.

Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad communicated his appreciation to El-Sisi, the statement said, adding that he will take up the invitation to visit Cairo at the earliest opportunity.

He also affirmed Egypt’s important role as a pillar for security and stability in the region, and his country’s support to Egypt in measures undertaken to preserve its interests.

Sheikh Nawaf, 83, assumed power on 30 September following the death of Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, 91.

In October, the new Emir of Kuwait named his brother Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as crown prince, with whom the Egyptian foreign minister also met.

Shoukry also expressed his appreciation for Kuwait’s support of the Egyptian economy in the past years, and Kuwait's efforts in supporting development in Egypt through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

The Kuwaiti crown prince hailed Egypt’s historic support of his country, stressing Egypt’s special status in the region and its important role in achieving regional stability.
