Egyptian Assistant to the Foreign Minister for European Affairs Badr Abdel-Ati has called for pushing political solutions for all crises facing the Mediterranean region and Africa, most notably the Palestinian issue.
Abdel-Ati's comments came addressing the virtual ministerial meeting organized by the Spanish foreign ministry between the Southern Neighborhood countries and the European Union (EU) on Thursday.
He stressed the importance of settling the Palestinian issue, drawing on the decisions of international legitimacy and the two-state solution based on the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 4 June, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also urged cooperation between all countries to confront "the unfortunate rise of racism and hate speech in a number of countries around the world," while assuring the necessity to respect religion, and preventing insults against religious symbols or the disparaging of religious feelings.
The Egyptian diplomatic official also reviewed other crises facing the Mediterranean region and Africa, especially coronavirus repercussions, irregular migration, climate change, and terrorism.
He also called for cooperation to provide vaccines for the virus to all world countries in a fair and secure manner.
