Egypt's interim government has described Mubarak's former spy chief Omar Suleiman, who died Thursday, as a patriot who was loyal to his country.

It also offered condolences to the family of Suleiman, who died at 76 while undergoing medical tests in the US. The cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed.

The body of Suleiman is expected to be returned to Egypt on Thursday.

His funeral will take place a day later in Cairo and will be attended by Field Marshall Tantawi, the head of the quasi-ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, according to an unnamed intelligence source.
