Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and US ambassador to Egypt Anne Paterson
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi met with US Ambassador to Egypt Ann Patterson on Tuesday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Cairo's Heliopolis district.
The meeting comes in advance of Morsi's scheduled visit to the United States on 24 September.
As part of Morsi's planned US visit, the president will attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York City.
The trip will be Morsi's first to the US since his assumption of Egypt's presidency on 30 June.
No further details about his meeting with Patterson were provided.
A visit to Egypt by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in July prompted criticism among certain segments of the Egyptian public over alleged links between the Muslim Brotherhood – the group from which Morsi hails – and the US.
Since the 1970s, Egypt has been considered one of Washington's leading allies in the region.
