Sources close to the Egyptian armed forces told Ahram Online President Mubarak was kept on a Cairo army base during the past 48 hours, and left for Sharm today

Sources close to the Egyptian armed forces told Ahram Online that President Hosni Mubarak was kept on a Cairo military base during the past 48 hours, to ensure his safety. The situation in the capital city had made it impossible for the president to move safely in his usual procession. The declared intention of protesters to head for the Presidential Palace in Heliopolis was an additional concern, which prompted moving the president to Sharm El-Sheikh.
The same sources gave indications that the president departed Cairo from the Almaza airforce base at around 14:00 today, heading most likely for the Sinai resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

For its party, Arabia TV said it had confirmed information that Mubarak had just arrived at Sharm El-Sheikh upon the presidential plane.
